Green Card Voices Madison Exhibit

Madison Public Library joins local partners in celebrating the diversity of Madison with a series of programs and displays highlighting the experiences of students from Madison and Milwaukee, featured in the forthcoming book Green Card Voices: Immigration Stories from Madison and Milwaukee High Schools

This book and traveling exhibit features 13 first-person narratives from students at James Madison Memorial High School, all of whom arrived in the United States as immigrants or refugees.

An Ear for Elsewhere: Jeff Pockat

Jeff Pockat has been a lifelong musician with a very eclectic set of musical tastes.  His interests range from Bluegrass to Classic Rock.  In 1984 he was introduced to the Harp with an intense interest in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands.  He soon fell in love with the more ancient wire-strung Clairseach or Gaelic Harp.  Jeff has become a music historian performing the music of greats like, Turlough O’Carolan, Rory dall O’Cathan, Cornelias Lyons and Dennis O’Hampsey just to name a few.  Da Mihi Manum, Eleanor Plunkett, Oscail an Doros are a few melodies by these a

An Ear for Elsewhere: Vidar & Randy

Vidar Skrede and Randy Gosa debut their combination of the melodies of Norwegian folk music with the rhythmic approach of Irish accompaniment. The duo performs a collection of Vidar’s original compositions, traditional Norwegian folk music, and a few Irish and Celtic influenced and traditional tunes. Between numbers, they will share stories and history relating to the music.
