Pamela Oliver will discuss the various explanations for these patterns in the racial-political history of Wisconsin and the nation and will invite the audience to ask questions and contribute their ideas.

Fitchburg resident Mark Olsky is one of the extraordinary people whose story is told in Wendy Holden’s book, Born Survivors: Three Young Mothers and Their Extraordinary Story of Courage, Defiance, and Hope. Mark will talk about his life after being born in the Mauthausen Concentration Camp.

Officer Saffold will address the paradox of being a Black officer during a time when police are viewed as an enemy and are often not trusted, especially among the African-American community. This presentation is part of the WI Humanities Council's Working Lives Project.
